Art And Artist : An Article by Samyamoy Sen Gupta
ART AND ARTIST :
An artist loves his pursuit in Art as one loves his child smothering him/her with kisses every now and then not because some organization or group will recognize and award his act but because ' the act is in itself, his reward '. If one is creative he will be naturally inclined to create in an artfull manner without promotion, provocation, appeal, order or request from anyone. The strongest person in this world is An Artist because he is strong in his mind. Every other person may perish in tragedy or calamity but not an artist. And ofcourse this world advances with the vision of, gets inspired with the dream of and revolts with the passion of : AN ARTIST.
Ofcourse an artist seeks appreciation from others skilled in the same line because that gives him assurance that he is good in his job. But even if appreciation is missing, recognition is absent, an artist goes on with his work till the end of his life. Recognition is depended on the mentality and taste of that time. There are many artists whose work has been recognized many years after they have died. The practical use of recognition and appreciation of commendable Bodies and Associations is that 'Majority people irrespective of whether they understand or not, begins to respect an artist's work and gives him the space and importance he deserves !
If an Artist is to be kept in an island for the rest of his life, devoid of human habitation, and is offered a lifetime supply of 3 things then his choice should include his Art Stuff, simply because he can't exist without creative expression. Primarily an Artist creates Art for his own satisfaction, secondarily for those who are atleast literate in this medium and thirdly for people.

STILL LIFE : Vagina Series
Palash or Bastard Teak ( Butea Monosperma ) is also known as Flame Of Forest. It is said that the tree is a form of Agni, God of Fire. It was a punishment given to Him by Goddess Parvati for disturbing Her and Lord Shiva's privacy. Imagining the Vagina as Agni, I have represented this flower as Vagina in a two photo series.
